Synopsis

'Biryani' is a socio-political drama around the lives of two women, Sakina a Muslim widow, and Kurmuri a low-caste, low class-deserted woman. Young Kurmuri is Sakina's paying guest. Sakina has one and only one wish to fulfill. She wants to celebrate the birthday of her only grandson at her home. With this celebration, Sakina wants to reclaim the love and respect of her married daughter. With her meager resources, the birthday celebration is a daunting task for her. Kurmuri is happily helping her landlady in the celebration. Kurmuri is looking after a temple cow and earning little money from it. The name of her cow is Ghuli. Things become bitter between Kurmuri and Sakina when Sakina refuses to give one steel tiffin to Kurmuri. Kurmuri starts to think that her landlady is just using her. Their fights give the opportunity to a local drug addict Vajir to sell Sakina's home at a low rate. Selfish Vajir even helps Kurmuri's abusive husband, Babu to catch her. Babu locks up Kurmuri and her cow in his home. Pandit, the lover of Kurmuri becomes anxious and files a police complaint about the missing cow. Police reach Sakina's house and discover Biryani cooked in kilos. The ill-informed police start to suspect that the cow was slaughtered at Sakina's place and the beef Biryani cooked from its meat. Sakina is in real danger now, her daughter refuses to help her in this critical situation. In the end, Kurmuri shows enormous courage and runs away from Babu's house. After reaching the police station safely with the cow, she rescues Sakina from the arrest. Finally, Sakina engraves the name of Kurmuri on the tiffin and gives it to Kurmuri. Though the birthday is canceled they both celebrate sisterhood.
