Synopsis

Hold The Mushrooms is a family dramedy. The play explores how even the strongest bonds can be broken by that age old tag-team - Pride and Prejudice; and how people cope when certain events can leave issues unresolved . A close knit family of three is torn apart by events that on the surface seem to be irreversible. The play is a light-hearted look at how they deal with the consequences of these events and why "Sorry" can be the hardest word to say to a loved one. The play has a run time of 1 hour 15 minutes and a cast of 4 characters with no set changes for the entire duration of the play. The play is set in an urban household and has two scenes set in the same location separated by a gap of two years. The play is culturally, location and ethnically agnostic. There is an interesting story-telling device in the second scene which only becomes evident to the audience by a very significant reveal mid-way through the scene which makes them re-evaluate the entire scene from a new perspective. Audiences have responded very well to this twist and expressed shock at how they didn’t see it coming, but how it was believable and consistent with the narrative.
