Synopsis

Ambu and Rajalakshmi are two young women, and cousin sisters; now in their thirties. Part II transpires two years after Part I. Ambu and Rajalakshmi have not met since the death in the family, in a small town in north India, two years ago. As it happens, these days, they have not been in touch, as well. Now they meet in Ambu’s city. Ammi, the matriarch of the family is in the city, accompanied by Rajalakshmi for a cataract operation at a nursing home in the suburbs. Ambu, has returned from an overseas trip. From the airport, she heads straight to the nursing home. Rajalakshmi informs Ambu that a very fussy Ammi, has just checked in for the cataract. While the operation is being conducted, Ambu and Rajalakshmi watch the proceedings on a TV in the ante room. The two women share vignettes which elevate their lives; and provide it with a tinge of majesty and victory. Ammi’s cataract operation is completed by the end of the second act.
